The children explored the world of an open pumpkin today with various toothpicks. They poked and prodded each pumpkin making holes in the soft flesh with their tools. They gutted the slimy seeds out of the pumpkin for us to roast for a tasty treat! The toothpicks were imaginary birthday candles to some of the children as they played with the pumpkins. We ended our day reading a story"Big Pumpkin", about a witch who had planted a pumpkin seed, then when the pumpkin grew it was to heavy to pluck from the vine for the witch to make pumpkin pie. Various friends like a mummy, and ghost tried to pluck the pumpkin but with no success. Along came a small bat who had the idea of working together to pluck the pumpkin off the vine. As they all worked together the pumpkin snapped off the vine and landed at the witches house. She made all her friends fresh pumpkin pie! What a great story and thanks to a fellow daycare provider for giving us such a wonderful book present!
