"Little Explorers" Nature Walk 5-20-11

We had a wonderful nature walk today.  The warm, sunny skies made our adventure even better!  We set off into the woods to find a perfect picnic lunch spot.  The children found many mushrooms along the way.  Walking sticks were found along the way to help in our journey.  We came across an ant colony which we observed at a distance, as the red ants were very busy at their work.  We crossed a stream and found a lovely lunch spot among the woods with views of our snowy mountains.  The children explored after lunch our surrounding area and found an interesting pincher centipede and other insects hiding under logs.  Cade found an old stump which he thought looked like and otter.  The children found various old tin cans which they hit with their sticks and pretended they were in a band.  We played by a stream and threw sticks and stones into the water.  The children started making a dam over a waterfall with all the sticks they threw into the water.  Cade explored throwing dirt, sticks, grass, and rocks into the water and commented if they sunk or floated.  We found a vintage Orange Crush glass bottle from the 1940-1970's era which we looked up online when we got home.  Our "Little Explorers" were tuckered out today with our beautiful nature walk today.  They are already looking forward to our next adventure!
