Sugar Cube Tower Absorption Painting

The children got to use engineering skills today building towers with sugar cubes in our science and art activity. They watched the cause and effect of dissolving sugar as they sprayed colored watercolors with spray bottles on top of their sugar cubes.  The cubes were interesting to look at as the color would bleed through the different towers and cubes then quickly dissolve into a pile of mush on their papers.  Some of the children experimented fingerpainting with the gritty, sticky watercolors they had created on their papers.  Some of our young ones were still trying to figure out how to work the spray bottle, as they would point it to their face and get a spray accompanied with giggles.  Avery and Meadow played this game back and forth laughing with each other and the surprise of each spray onto their face, ears, or hair!   We even experimented mixing different colors and used our eye droppers for our science experiment today.
