Please Sing me a Song!

We added crickets to our seasonal "I Spy" box.  The children loved watching the crickets hop around and leave prints in our jurassic sand.  We added dinosaur friends to keep the crickets company.  The crickets would hop around and under the dinosaurs.  The children fed the crickets a tasty treat of carrots which they loved watching them munch away with their mouths.  Cade and Madden started chirping like crickets which I thought was quite impressive to do by humming their lips together.  We talked about how crickets rub their wings to chirp and sing their songs.  The crickets were given names of Stripy, Rocky, Eyesie, and Jello, along with the conventional names of Cade, Madden, and Robin!  The children watched on DVD Eric Carle's "The Very Quiet Cricket", a beautiful artistic story on the TV screen.  We talked about how our new cricket friends would sing us a song if we were patient.  Sure enough as the sun went down and our playroom was quiet and dark...they began to sing!  Fortunately for Cade and Rylan who were the only children in the house got to hear their sweet songs!  They kissed the glass to wish them a goodnight which I thought was very sweet!
