I Dig Worms!

Our seasonal "I Spy Box" became a home for our worms  this month with our theme of Recycling.  We made a simple compost  to feed our worms this month.  We have added banana peels and apples for delicious treats for our worms.  The worms were more active than I thought they would be as they continually move about the box or they all congregate together in one twisted knot!  The children have been enjoying looking through the glass to "I Spy" a worm.  I also added various little friends such as turtle, butterfly, snake, frog, and fly.  We take out the worms for play and exploration as everyone gets a turn holding a squiggly worm.  Lyla and Rylan took the worm on many adventures as he was "cooked" in a skillet and read books to! The worms explored our floor and the children gave them many obstacles to climb over or through!  The texture of the worms were soft and I made sure everyone didn't squeeze too tight as they held the worms!  I also added grass seed in our dirt in hopes of growing grass and different herbs that will start growing out of pots.  I have planted cilantro, mint, oregano, chives, basil, and lime basil.  The children will help care for our worms and herbs by spraying them with water each day.  We look forward to our herb garden growing and the many more adventures with our worms!
