Cinnamon Stick Texture Rubbings

We had a sensory experience exploring rubbing cinnamon sticks on sandpaper.  The smell was wonderful and little hands smelled like warm apple pie!  The children turned the cinnamon sticks into mustaches, straws, and robots.  The texture on the sandpaper was sensory to their fingertips as they rubbed the cinnamon and crayons on their papers.  They liked feeling the bumps as they moved their hands across their papers.  We experimented rubbing our crayons hard and soft and watched as the wax disappeared from our crayons onto the paper.  Alexandra and Cade made their papers into horns and began talking silly with each other through their contraptions!  The children really enjoyed this sensory art and they enjoyed smelling their hands throughout our day after our project was over.
